Internet connection must be good as well
If you want to make sure you don't die, your internet connection has to be super good. or james bond (007) will get you sooner or later. do this as soon as u know u are going to die, or the slightest hint that you are going to die, QUIT!
how to target an enemy without u running into them first,
use tab to select the next enemy or \ to select the clocest enemy then target them, but half way cast a non-attack spell, this will make the hench run pass u to tank. i know u can use bow to pull them but if you are the first one they sees and there are enemy assassin around you will be the target even if u pull and run away, so far i've use the above method nicely. but needs practice if u haven't try it before.
word of advice
stop doing survivor title after u get lvl 1 which is easy, or the games becomes not fun. cos u spend lots of time running away instead of enjoying it.

Yeah, I just suggest trying that when you're a much higher level.
So, now I'm trying it with my new Ranger... We shall see!

Sentimental Treasure is also one to skip (spiking Ritualist) until a bit buffer.
Uber Nostrum '2', with a second dragon mask will attest to that.
Only good thing is now I have his starter armor for trying SB/Prot monk.

You can also start in Tyria, especially if you'll get a powerlevel eventually.
Get out of Pre-Searing, get a run to Lion's Arch, go to Kaineng City and you already have 1.5K armor. Then get a run from Lion's Arch to Sanctum Cay and get a powerlevel in Elona Reach. After that, ascend and start capping Elite skills, get powerleveled even more (you can also go to Droknar's Forge now), or make yourself a SB/PS or 55 Health Monk and start powerleveling yourself (in this case, I advice solo'ing Minotaurs with a SB/PS build with Spiteful Spirit, which you can cap after getting to Droknar's Forge).

Do everything with henches, human groups are generally a bad choice especially so early in the game. Even the most simple things can become a nightmare with them. Stay back like you would normally do as a monk, always call targets, and hench do the rest.
I did it with my Ritualist, with an average prot spirit build (Union, Shelter, ...), so maybe prot monk would be the best choice for you too. It was pretty simple, I was never in real danger. Just dont get spiked by 2 or more simultaneously exploding afflicted in Zen Daijun. This can kill you off quickly. Always try to get the best possible armor to reduce that risk.
Just don't be lame and get powerleveled or farm or stuff. This way you may get the title, but you haven't earned it and can't say "yay I did it". Those people that farm to get the title also look for a runner from Marketplace to Kaineng, you don't want to be one of them!

Getting the Legendary Survivor title is something else though. I'm pretty close to Survivor now, but I'm going to kill Minotaurs for the last 1,2 million experience

Better idea:
F11 to go to options, make it so a single click only targets an enemy. Alternately, you can use C + Tab.
Then when you want your henchmen to attack a mob, click a monster, and press Ctrl+Shift+Space. No spells, bows, or attacks needed.

Yes just call a target and henchmen will attack, you never need to fire a shot or begin to fire a shot.

Back when I was collecting amulets, I rolled a few survivor monks, plus I've gotten my ele to Legendary Survivor, and am working on getting my survivor mesmer up to Legendary status. I always do it the same way.
On Shing Jae, I do all profession skill quests for all professions. As stated above, be very careful with the first ele duel quest. You will find it easiest to go to Tsumei and use the lvl 6 henches for all your questing needs, instead of the level 3's, from Shing Jae.
Do the easier miscellaneous quests, except Seige at Tsumei (save for later). I've never bothered with Naga Source.
Once I get my second profession, usually about level 9, I do the Minister Cho's estate mission. Take the henches (lvl 10) for the next 2 primary quests. I also do the quest where you escort the farmer or whoever back to Aerie at this time. Then, back to Togo, and go with Brother Pe Wan to Seitung Harbor. Don't let him get much ahead of you because he won't cause some mobs to spawn, and you will be left behind with your henches while he is attacked further ahead.
Get armor at Seitung. Go back for Togo's Ultimatum. Clear up any other easy quests you haven't done yet, including the first 15 attribute point quest.
Do the Insignia and the followup quest.
Do Looking for Trouble and the primary quests to get to the second mission, Zen Daijun. Be careful with the quest where you have to fight off the onslaught. Stay with the NPC's and let them come to you.
Everything to this point I always do with henches. If you go for a PUG for the mission, be particular with your group. Have they bought armor ? Hopefully, you can get at least 1 lvl 20 in the group who is there for the Protector title, although not necessary. This mission is also possible with henchies, especially if you either leave the melee out of the party, or know how to pull without them running to engage. Always pull mobs out of the miasma. Just be careful of the last 2 bosses, and do the Rit or whatever first. I don't remember the name, but it's the shorter name of the two.
After the mission, get to Kaineng, get max armor, go to LA for a little more xp, and pick up any prophecies only skills you want.
Take "The Search for a Cure" quest from Imperial Agent Hanjo in Kaineng. Leave from the marketplace and kill the first 3 Jade Brotherhood Knights and map back to Kaineng. Finish that quest, pick up the "Seeking out Brother Tosai", but just leave it active and do not complete it. Now, you can do enough quests outside of Kaineng and Marketplace that you can get level 20, without fighting hardly anything. There is a quest to kill 5 flesh golems in the undercity, which is easy. There is a quest to kill an assassin, which is easy. Other than that, if you find yourself having to go through red dots, there is an easier way to get where you are going.
At some point, after levelling up to or near 20, go back and do the second 15 attribute point quest.
Welcome to the ranks of Survivordom.

Got my first Survivor rank today Now it's time for the endless capping.. Let's hope I'll make it all the way!
I got a run to and through the dessert (picked up 1.5K Acolyte's armor in Kaineng City on the way), then I got a run through Elona Reach and did Thirsty River and Dunes of Despair with Henchmen. Then I ascended and got myself to Droknar's Forge. Then I did some quests in Cantha and capped 6 Elite skills and got my first rank Well.. It's time for me to cap some Elites!

Got my Ranger to Survivor (1) yesterday. I'm so proud . Still hasn't died and I just keep going. Did everything with henchies so far, except Zen Daijun, which I did with my wife because she hadn't gotten Masters yet. I must say, though, it seems the Ranger is one of the easiest to -not die- with. I've net even lost half my life due to anything. Having long range sure helps, as I don't seem to ever be the target of any foes. I was even able to use starter armor up till Seitung, then used that armor till Kaineng.
I think as long as I keep Storm Chaser and Lightning Reflexes on my skillbar, I can always back out of a fight if need be. So I don't see myself dieing anytime soon, either.
